Our Love Story

Marcus spotted her crossing the library at the University of East Anglia and immediately forgot how to be a normal human being.

Dani had noticed Marcus at a basketball game before — he did really stand out — and with very Colombian resourcefulness, asked a friend from the team to introduce them.

Her friend, with all the best intentions in the world, introduced her to Marcus’s teammate instead.

By the time the right Marcus finally appeared, Dani was already seeing someone else.

It wasn’t the moment.

But God’s timing is perfect — and was clearly working on something better.

It was the last party before the world went into lockdown.

Marcus spotted Dani at the kitchen of mutual friend’s house party, walked straight over, opened a bottle of vodka that belonged to his flatmate — without asking, without apology — poured two glasses, and handed one to her.

Bold. Possibly reckless. Definitely effective.

They talked, they laughed, they danced. Hours disappeared without either of them noticing.

Then they started texting. Slowly at first. Then constantly.

When Dani came back to England in 2021, Marcus knew one thing with absolute certainty: He was not letting this chance slip away.

Marcus started making the trip to Norwich every single weekend to see Dani.

Not one weekend. Not two. Three solid months of trains, buses, showing up — very English, very patient, very convinced.

Then one day Dani laughed and pointed out a rather important detail: He had never actually asked her to be his girlfriend. To his credit, Marcus corrected the oversight immediately.

On the 8th of October 2021, it became official.

Around that same time, Marcus also made sure Dani met his mum, Amanda, during several weekends leading up to Christmas. Dani arrived nervous, naturally. She didn’t stay nervous for long.

Amanda had the kind of warmth that made people feel at home almost instantly. She filled rooms with laughter and had a laugh so infectious that nobody stood a chance once she started.

Those weekends became days full of joy. The kind you keep close.

In January 2022, Marcus lost his mum. Amanda was the kind of woman who would have had strong opinions about the wedding flowers, laugh louder than anyone and held Amara as though she had been waiting for her whole life to meet her — because she had.

She never got to meet her granddaughter. She never got to walk down the aisle with her son…

That absence lives quietly inside this celebration — real, present, and full of love.

Marcus carries her with him into every room.

She will be there at the Sagrada Família too: in the light pouring through stained glass, in the silence before the vows, and in the joy she always wanted for him.

After some grey days, Marcus and Dani needed a change of air.

So they packed one suitcase and moved to Colombia.

While Dani thrived at a top international company, Marcus enrolled at university to learn Spanish, taught English on the side, and volunteered at a children’s home in Chía.

He met Doña Cony — today and forever known as Abuelita Cony — who adopted him instantly and began feeding him with no warning and no expiry date.

He met every one of Dani’s preschool friends and quickly learned that in Colombia, “friends from preschool” is simply another word for family.

He also met Carlos, Dani’s older brother. And all his family.

The language gap was not always easy.

But it was never really an obstacle.

Case in point: New Year’s Eve, 2022.

Marcus got up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water and found Carlos and his friends still going strong. Without missing a beat, Carlos handed him a glass of whisky instead.

Marcus took it. The party carried on. Some things need no translation.

Nearly two years in Colombia gave them the chance to travel, discover hidden corners of Latin America, and keep building a future together — one adventure at a time… a very private civil union and they even adopted a cat!

Christmas 2023 brought the biggest news of their lives: They were going to become parents.

Many things changed in just a few weeks — no more nomad traveling, they moved back to the UK, found a new city, new jobs, and a little bungalow filled with love.

Then, in July 2024 — loud, luminous, and perfectly on time — Amara arrived.

The wedding savings disappeared almost overnight. Nobody minded for even a second.

Some things are worth every penny and every sleepless night. Amara is all of them at once.

Marcus chose Ightham Mote — a medieval manor house that has stood in Sevenoaks since 1320 — and got down on one knee. He had been carrying those words for a while, waiting for exactly the right moment.

He found it there.

In a place built to outlast centuries, with the quiet hope that their love would do the same.

Dani said yes before he had even finished the sentence.

Early 2026 brought an impossible news.

A space had opened at the Sagrada Família — a place where faith, patience, and beauty have been under construction since 1882.

It felt like more than coincidence. It felt like grace.

On the 20th of March 2027, Dani and Marcus will stand there with Amara in their arms; with la abuelita Cony and the entire Nates family; with Marcus’s family; with Amanda’s dearest friends who showed up for Marcus, for Dani, and for baby Amara in the moments that mattered most; with university friends, preschool friends, best friends who stopped being friends long ago and simply became family; and with the new friendships that arrived during the beautiful chaos of parenthood.

All together. All in one place. In one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world.

To receive God’s blessing on a love that survived bad timing, a pandemic, two continents, immeasurable loss, and the beautiful, exhausting, perfect chaos of becoming three.

They cannot wait.

Out of respect for this sacred space, please ensure shoulders and chest are covered, and dresses reach at least the knee. A shawl is a beautiful option.

Please avoid white, ivory, black or very dark colours.

Our bridesmaids will be wearing butter yellow. To avoid any clashes, please leave this shade for the wedding party.

Every other warm tone is warmly welcomed!
