Our Love Story

Marcus spotted her crossing the library at the University of East Anglia. Dani had noticed Marcus at a basketball game.
When Marcus and Dani first spoke, Dani was already seeing someone else.

It wasn’t yet the moment.
But God’s timing is perfect and it was clearly meant to happen later.

It was the last party before the world went into lockdown.
Marcus spotted Dani at the kitchen of mutual friend’s house party, walked straight over, opened a bottle of vodka poured two glasses, and handed one to her.

.
They talked, they laughed and connected.
Hours disappeared without either of them noticing.
But this still wasn’t the right time.

After another year of single life, they connected over social media.
When Dani came back to England in 2021, Marcus started making the trip to Norwich every single weekend to see Dani.

On the 8th of October 2021, their relationship became official, as Marcus asked Dani to be his girlfriend.
A few weeks later, Marcus invited Dani to visit his home, where she met his mother, Amanda. Dani was nervous at first, but Amanda’s welcoming disposition, kindness, and warmth soon put her at ease.

Amanda had a way of making everyone feel at home, with a wonderful sense of humour and a laugh that was impossible not to join in with.
Then came Boxing Day, when Dani met Marcus’s wider family and many of Amanda’s friends. There were so many names and faces to remember, but before long, those strangers became familiar faces, and eventually, close family.
They were days filled with laughter, warmth and happiness .
The kind of memories you keep close.

In January 2022, Marcus lost his mum. Amanda was the kind of woman who would have had strong opinions about the wedding flowers, laugh louder than anyone and held Amara as though she had been waiting for her whole life to meet her — because she had.
She never got to meet her granddaughter. She never got to walk down the aisle with her son…
Marcus carries her with him into every room.
She will be there at the Sagrada Família too: in the light pouring through stained glass, in the silence before the vows, and in the joy she always wanted for him.

After a difficult time, Marcus and Dani needed a change of air.
So, they packed up their things and went to stay with Dani’s family in Colombia.
Marcus met Dani’s mother, now known as Abuelita Cony, who welcomed him to her home.
While Dani thrived at a top international company, Marcus enrolled at university to learn Spanish, taught English, and they both volunteered at a children’s orphanage for kids with learning difficulties in Chía, the town where they were living.
He met every one of Dani’s preschool friends, Dani’s brother and family, and her extended family too.

Nearly two years in Colombia gave them the chance to travel, discover hidden corners of Latin America, and keep building a future together, one adventure at a time…

A very private civil union, and they even adopted a cat!

Christmas 2023 brought the biggest news of their lives: They were going to become parents.
Many things unfolded over a few months. The timer was set and they took action.
Marcus returned home to find them somewhere to live and to start working at his new job. Dani stayed in Colombia a little longer with her family to help prepare herself for the adventure of labour and motherhood.

amara

Then, in July 2024, their beautiful, precious, luminous daughter, Amara, arrived.
Sleep became an estranged but dearly missed friend; finding time together became very difficult, and things became more expensive.
But that did not matter in the slightest, because Amara was the most wonderful gift that they could ever have received.

To propose, Marcus chose Ightham Mote, a medieval manor house that has stood in Sevenoaks since 1320.
He carefully planned a proposal in that place with a photographer, so that it could be recorded in photos, as well as in their memories.
He got down on one knee and asked her the words he’d been waiting to say for so long.
.

In a place built to last for centuries, with the hope that their bond would be similarly long-lasting.
Dani said yes before he had even finished the sentence.

Early 2026 brought the thrilling news that they would be able to get married at La Sagrada Família: a place where faith, patience, and beauty have been under construction since 1882.
Much like how people and the relationships that they maintain, are always growing and changing too.
It felt like more than coincidence. It felt like grace.

On the 20th of March 2027, Dani and Marcus will stand there with Amara in their arms;
with both their families together; with Amanda’s dearest friends who showed up for Marcus, for Dani, and for baby Amara in the moments that mattered most; with university friends, preschool friends, best friends; and with the new friendships that arrived during the beautiful chaos of parenthood.
All together. All in one place. In one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world.

To receive God’s blessing on a love that survived bad timing, a pandemic, two continents, immeasurable loss, and the beautiful, exhausting, perfect chaos of becoming three.
They cannot wait.
